Loft Insulation

Loft Insulation

What Is Loft Insulation?

Loft insulation is a thick mineral fibre material that lays between and over the joists in your loft or roof. It captures heat normally lost through the roof and stops draughts from getting in.

What are the benefits of loft insulation?

Up to a quarter of a home’s heat can be lost through an uninsulated loft. Loft insulation is an easy way to stop that heat loss, cutting your carbon footprint and making savings on your bills in the process!

Installing loft insulation is as simple as unrolling a rug. A mineral fibre material is laid between the joists and then over the joists in your loft or roof. This thick material captures heat normally lost through the roof and stops draughts from getting in.

If you already have loft insulation, you could still benefit from a top-up. If your insulation is 100mm or less, you can increase it to the recommended level of 270mm.

We use Knauf Insulation Loft Roll 44 which is a non-combustible Glass Mineral Wool roll with the best possible Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, and is manufactured using Knauf Insulation’s unique bio-based binder, ECOSE® Technology.

Underfloor Insulation

Underfloor Insulation

Suspended timber floors are draughty! Most suspended timber floors consist simply of floorboards laid on top of timber floor joists. These draughts are often reduced slightly by liners laid below timber or laminate floor finishes, but these will not stop the draughts completely as the edges are not typically taped to make them airtight. Well installed underfloor insulation will mean your house will heat up quicker and lose heat slower.

Underfloor insulation is a great way to keep your property warm. Approximately 15% of heat lost from homes is lost through the ground floor.

Heating Services

First Time Central Heating

First Time Central Heating

Central heating is using centrally located equipment and ductwork or radiators to heat your home, this may be a furnace, a heat pump or a boiler. While Central Heating is commonplace, there are still homes that don’t use a centralised heating system.

What are the benefits of Central Heating?

Getting central heating in your home for the first time means you’ll have the most up-to-date heating technology, giving you the safest and most efficient systems. Central heating can offer all these benefits:

Increased Efficiency

The latest boilers are extremely energy efficient as the heated air passes through vents and ducts so they don’t tend to lose the amount they generate. This saves the need for excessive energy consumption and decreases energy costs.

Healthy and Environment-Friendly

Not only does central heating reduce your energy costs but it can also help protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Alongside their ecological benefits, they reduce the transmission of allergens and dust across your home making them a popular choice for allergic people. Additionally, boilers are entirely noise proof and they can reduce noise pollution massively.

Operating Costs

Central heating pays off in the long term saving you money compared to electric heaters but also will contribute as a valuable asset in your house should you decide to sell.

Versatile

Boiler systems are compact and therefore suitable for all home sizes with combination boilers taking up less floor space and can even be mounted on the wall. A radiant heating system working alongside your boiler allows additional options providing even more comfort and convenience. These additional options may include zoning features, snowmelt features, towel warmers, underfloor heating and additional radiators.

‘Luke and Cameron where the engineers who came out to fit a new boiler and remove an old back boiler it was absolutely brilliant quick efficient and very professional. Couldn't be happier with their service. Sophie took care of my case which kept getting handed from handler to handler, she took it on herself to ensure the job was done properly and it was! Thank you to the team for working together.’

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on the size of your property and what type of heating system we are installing, but can be between 2-7 working days.

Yes every habitable room will have a radiator.

Generally, one radiator should be left permanently switched on: this is the ‘bypass’ radiator. This radiator may be a bathroom towel rail (where the heat is always likely to be useful), or in the same room as the room thermostat

In a wet system, your boiler will heat water which is then pumped through a network of pipes that connect to radiators in the house. Each radiator has valves that control the rate at which water flows through them and the amount of heat that’s given off.

ESH stores heat overnight in firebricks. This heat is then gradually released into the house during the day. Mainly heating overnight and only during short periods throughout the day, the system can use cheaper, off-peak electricity on Economy 7 and Economy 10 tariffs.

An electric boiler is a future proof solution that can be used for central heating. They are similar to gas boilers, except they heat the water for your radiators and taps using electricity rather than gas. The greatest efficiency of electric boilers is 99-100 % compared to gas boilers 93%.

After we’ve assessed your eligibility for funding, your property will have a retrofit assessment survey and a retrofit coordinator will design a plan for your home. We’re not able to give advice on energy efficiency measures for your home until that assessment has taken place.
