Making Energy Greener backs former labour leader as new net zero laws are put in place

Making Energy Greener backs former labour leader as new net zero laws are put in place

Rebecca Armstrong, Managing Director of Making Energy Greener, said to Liverpool Echo that its time to reward good green action:

Last week, former Labour leader and now Shadow Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary, Ed Miliband, announced plans to introduce new net zero laws that will force big companies to limit their carbon footprint. With this on the horizon for many businesses across the Liverpool City Region, now is the time for companies to incentivise their teams by rewarding good, sustainable and green behaviours. This can include company-wide recognition for employees who show a keen interest in green practices, encouraging them to get involved in your company’s green projects and celebrating their achievements.

Before anything, the senior management within a business should have a green strategy in place. If not, it’s important to make a plan so that it is clear from the top down what the direction of travel is for the company and how the strategy is going to be implemented.

One of the things we did at Making Energy Greener was to split our large headquarters into smaller hubs so it was easier for the majority of the team to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to work.

Our region must address how it uses energy and understand the impact it is having on the world’s climate, and this can start with companies and the individuals who work there, with a particular focus on reducing waste, which also includes excessive carbon emissions.

In the future companies will have to report their carbon usage and may be fined if it’s excessive, so it’s better to start to address the problem now, while going green is also good for brand image as it appeals to customers, stakeholders and employees alike.

Making Energy Greener details how they are reducing fuel poverty in Energy and Sustainability Solutions Magazine article:

Save an average of £400 on your energy bills in time for next winter, says expert

North West-based energy services company, Making Energy Greener, is providing the public with the chance to have insulation installed in their homes for free this spring – saving people an average of £400 a year on their energy bills, something consumers are completely unaware of, which has frustrated Managing Director, Rebecca Armstrong.

Following on from its previous campaign aimed at educating the public on fuel poverty last winter, this new initiative comes as part of Making Energy Greener’s call for individuals to ‘embrace the season of change’, encouraging the public to make changes to their home and take advantage of its free insulation service while the weather is more hospitable.

Through this new initiative, MEG aims to extend its reach to as many households across the country as possible, focussing on homeowners within council tax bands A-D in England and E in Wales, including properties rated EPC D and below for homeowners, and E and below for tenants.

In addition, Making Energy Greener has also made a substantial investment in installing a large amount of new, smart heating controls, enhancing energy efficiency and energy management within homes. The company says now is the best time to make homes more energy efficient with measures such as installing loft or cavity wall insulation, switching to smart heating controls or installing an air-source heat pump, minimising inconvenience for customers.

MEG is a leader in the energy services sector, delivering deep retrofit and energy efficient heating systems for homes across the UK for over five years. With an ambition of making every home in the country an eco-home, the firm works with Local Authorities, energy companies, housing associations and landlords to instal free energy saving measures, including loft, room in roof, cavity and solid wall insulation, efficient heating systems, smart heating controls and other renewables such as air source heat pumps and solar PV.

Rebecca Armstrong, managing director, MEG, said: “As we transition into spring we’re greeted with increased sunlight and longer daylight hours, a natural cue for planning a new project. Green energy isn’t a luxury, but a standard for every household. And, as a family business, we understand the problems people face when the weather deteriorates, that’s why we’re providing households with this free service now so they can take an important step towards slashing their heating bills with minimal inconvenience.”

MEG now has access to LA Flex funding in multiple regions across the UK from the Wirral, Liverpool City Region, and Manchester City Region, to Shropshire, Wales, and Sheffield. LA Flex funding is available to residents who are either living in fuel poverty or on low income and therefore vulnerable to living in a cold home.

The Great British Insulation Scheme is a government scheme to help people insulate their homes, make them more energy efficient and save money on their energy bills. The £1 billion scheme will help around 300,000 households across the country with the cost of installing new home insulation.

With sites in Liverpool and Preston, MEG installed over 7,000 energy efficient measures into homes right across the country in 2021-22.

Making Energy Greener restores neglected period housing in Liverpool with new sustainable strategies

Rebecca Armstrong, Managing Director of Making Energy Greener, states in Liverpool Echo article:

Across the city, as we transition into spring we’re greeted with increased sunlight and longer daylight hours, a natural cue for planning a new project. Green energy isn’t a luxury, but a standard for every household in the Liverpool City Region. And, as a family business, I understand the problems people face when the weather deteriorates, that’s why at Making Energy Greener we’re providing households with free loft and cavity wall insulation so families can take an important step towards slashing their heating bills with minimal inconvenience this spring.

Described by English Heritage as ‘England’s finest Victorian city’, Liverpool is home to one of the largest concentrations of period housing in the UK. However, due to neglect and the passing of time, the majority of these houses are insufficiently insulated. So, not only can energy-efficient insulation help make your home more valuable, but it can also save you money.

Research has found that some households are paying over the odds on their energy bills, with some estimates in excess of £300. Shockingly, people living in poorly insulated homes are paying close to 50% more on their energy bills than those living in homes with adequate loft and cavity wall insulation.

Our campaign this spring follows on from our previous scheme which aimed to educate the public on fuel poverty, while this new initiative comes as part of our call for individuals to ‘embrace the season of change’, encouraging the public to make changes to their home and take advantage of our free insulation service while the weather is more hospitable.

In short, now is the best time to make homes more energy efficient with measures such as installing loft or cavity wall insulation, switching to smart heating controls or installing an air-source heat pump, minimising inconvenience for customers.
